Indictment Found

I found the indictment for Laurent Chavet since I hadn't heard much about his case lately. You can find it here. I'm still trying to find out what the latest status of the case is.

Earthquake Nearby

I was in a meeting when the earthquake hit today but I didn't feel it. I also didn't see anything out of place or damaged when I went home to check on Toby and Fuzzy. I'll look around later to see if there are any cracks in the ceiling or walls.

When Will The Trees Change Colors?

I was looking for a place that would tell me when the trees in the Eastern Sierras will change colors and I think I've found a good one here. Last year the trees changed color in Mid-October. Here is a photo that I took back then. I hope to get a chance to go check it out again this year.

Tivo Saved The Game

Tivo is awesome. Because of Tivo I got to watch the Stanford vs. USC game which turned out to be really good. The important part of recoding sports with Tivo is to make sure that you don't read or hear about the score of the game before you get a chance to watch it. In this case I had to work hard not to look at the news because if Stanford had won the game it would have been all over the web. I'm taping football today and I'm trying to make sure I don't see the scores ahead of time.

Timber Out Of Town

Timber went out of town this weekend with her parents. They left me at home with Toby and Fuzzy, her parents' two dogs. I wish I had enough vacation to go with them but I guess I'll be home with the boys for a few weeks. I miss her already. It is kind of lame to have her gone. :-(

The Straw That Broke The Camel's Back

Earlier this week I finally broke down and got a Tivo unit. I finally decided to do it because of 24. The story is that I had been thinking about getting Tivo and about the shows that I could tape with it, but it wasn't until Timber told me that 24 was going to be on Monday's that I finally decided I had had enough. I usually have two soccer games on Mondays and would never be able to watch the show, and if you buy a Tivo through the end of this month you get a $100 rebate, so I went ahead and got one. Another reason for getting it was that Timber is going out of town for nearly two weeks and didn't want her to miss her favorite shows. So I did some online research and found that out of the retailers in our area Costco had the best deal. So I picked it up there and I've already sent in the rebate information. Generally the Tivo connects through the phone line to download television schedules and other updates, but yesterday I went and got a wireless network card for it and got it set up. So now my Tivo connects through my wireless network. One really cool thing about it is that I can schedule shows for it to tape through the web, so now Timber can schedule the shows that she's interested in taping while she is on her trip. I like it a lot thus far and it almost feels like I've joined a cult because when I talk to people about Tivo the other people around that don't have it can't really understand what we're talking about. At any rate it's great for football season.

The Blindingly Obvious

An autopsy said that Rick James had drugs in his system at the time of his death. Nine types of drugs to be exact. Did they really have to do an autopsy to know that he was on drugs? It's Rick James for crying out loud!

Sh-Shakey's

Timber and I finally hit Shakey's yesterday. I haven't had Shakey's since I lived in Fairbanks. As far as pizza goes it was alright. The crust was really good but the rest of the pizza was so-so. I had been wanting to get some Shakey's since I first saw them in San Jose a few years ago, and since we were at the driving range nearby yesterday it was the perfect time to do it. I doubt I'll be back to Shakey's anytime soon because football season calls for High Five Pizza Company.

Kerry's Wife Cracks Me Up

This article talks about John Kerry's wife saying that Dubya is "inflexible". I'll take decisive leadership even if it is sometimes wrong over wishy washy waffle man Kerry any day of the week. You have to ask yourself what is important. The thing I like best about Dubya is that when he says he is going to do something or he expects something out of you he does what he says he'll do and he holds people accountable. Remember when Dubya told Saddam that he had 48 hours to get out of Iraq? He wasn't joking. So in this area I think it comes down to a choice between decicive and waffly. All things being equal both are going to be wrong sometimes. So out of those two, who do you pick to control the red button that can nuke half of the planet?

Sore Shoulder From Soccer

I had a soccer game last night at Off The Wall Soccer and had a pretty big collision with a guy as we were both going up for the ball and now I've got a sizable bruise developing on my right shoulder. I was playing goal keeper and it was near the top of the goal box that the other guy went and I went up in the air for the ball. I'm not sure exactly where my shoulder hit him but I know my forearm went across his face and he went down hard. I landed on my feet and chased after the ball. He got up a few seconds later and kept playing so I'm guessing he was ok. Luckily he didn't get all mad about it as people often do. I don't play dirty and I shake everyone's hand after the game because I belive in sportsmanship and playing hard but leaving it all on the field. I just hope my shoulder doesn't interfere with my golf swing when I hit the driving range tonight. On second thought, after the score I got this weekend it might make my golf swing better.

Google Full Of Democrats

I think Google is full of democrats. Exhibit A, go to google and do a search on worst president and the first result in that list is www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html. Now look through that page and see if you can find the word "worst" anywhere in that page. Exhibit B, do the search for worst president ever and you get the same result as the first result in the result list. The last time I checked search engines they returned pages that had all the terms, especially for the first result. Someone at google is having a little bit of fun. What they should do is go ahead and modify the results list for a search worst search engine and worst search engine ever. I thought google was supposed to "not be evil"? You guys need to reel in whoever is doing that stuff.

Headed To Reno This Weekend

I'm headed to Reno this weekend to meet up with Trigger and Smokey. Their actual identities have been hidden to protect the innocent. The plan is to watch the UNR football game tomorrow and then play some golf on Sunday. Sounds like a tough weekend eh?

MLB Gameday

I would consider myself a casual baseball fan. Casual because I like to watch games on tv occasional and I really like to attend games but I don't know the stats for all the players and teams like the die hard fans. That being said, I like what MLB has done with their website and in particular MLB gameday. MLB Gameday is an application that you can launch from the scoreboard and follow every game with play by play updates. I think they've done a great job of making all the information accessible and overall the user interface is very good. I highly recommend checking it out.

Middle Fork Was Not To Be

The Middle Fork of the American River was not to be, and I'm glad because it was 100 degrees there this weekend. Instead I went to Moffet Field and checked out the commisary, and the store were military personel can buy clothes, electronics, and other stuff. The cool thing about shopping on base is that the prices are better than pretty much anywhere else and there is no sales tax. I told Timber's dad that I might join the Navy because the prices are so low, but he reminded me that the prices are low because the pay is low. I guess I'll stay where I'm at. :-)

Middle Fork Of The American River

The plans are finally in place. Timber and I are going to the Middle Fork of the American River with her parents this weekend. We're going to stay near Oxbow and I'm going to try to catch some fish. I'm a little concerned about the information on fishing the Middle Fork because I'm not really able to find any information on it online and only one of my fishing books really says anything about it. It basically says that there are some decent spots to fish, but you have to hike to get to them. But it doesn't specify any types of flies or any other specifics. I think I'll head to the San Jose Fly Shop tomorrow to find some flies and advice before going.

I'm From The Streets Bitch

60034311.jpg
You know you've been watching too much of the Dave Chappelle Show Season 1 DVD set when you start using lines from it without meaning to. After I came home from work I went out through the garage to check the mail. On my way back I saw a black widow spider hanging out near the outside of my garage. So I went back into the house, got the RAID and an extra shoe, and while I was killing the spider I inadvertently said aloud "I'm from the streets bitch!". I'm not sure how loudly I said it and I'm not sure if any neighbors heard me, but I don't think any black widows will be back any time soon.

Small Changes To Blog

I've made a few small changes to my blog. If you look on the right side you'll now see that Archives, Trips, Photos, Links, and Blogs I Read are slightly different. If you click on the text the list will expand. I've tested this on IE, Safari, and Firefox, so it should work for most browsers. If you run into a problem let me know. More changes are in the works so stay tuned!

Coscto And The Feather River

I finally joined Costco this past weekend. Timber and I have been thinking about it for a while and we finally decided to take the plunge. My biggest issue with joining is that everything you get there is in bulk, so for just the two of us we really have to plan out our meals ahead of time to keep food from going bad. We don't currently do a good job of that, but we're trying to change. I do like the fact that if you're smart about it you can save money in the long term, so we'll try it out for a year and see how it goes. If we don't like it then we won't renew next year. This weekend is barreling toward me faster than I'd like but it is time to put some serious thought into what I'm going to do over the three day weekend. Since Timber's foot still isn't 100 % I think we're going to have to limit ourselves to doing something that isn't quite as stressful on the feet as backpacking. And since I think it is time to get out of town again the only logical activity left is fishing. I'm thinking about heading up to the Feather River and I'll start doing my research tonight.
